Pain Management

The issue of pain management is often a concern for pet owners. A unique problem that we face in veterinary medicine is that our patients can’t talk to us and tell us if they are experiencing acute or chronic pain symptoms. Another hurdle that we face is an animal’s tendency to hide signs of pain, especially chronic pain. Our veterinary team is trained to identify signs of pain in animals by taking a thorough history with questions that can help us understand the pet’s behaviours and routines, as well as a performing a thorough physical examination. As in human medicine, we have a variety of medications available to manage your pet’s pain before and after surgery, after an injury, or in the event, your pet suffers from arthritis or other forms of chronic pain.

Our veterinarians can prescribe the right medication for the issue at hand. We do not advise anyone self-medicating their pets, because some medications can be toxic to pets or may interact in a negative way with other prescribed drugs. We would be pleased to discuss the options available to you and your pet under any of the above circumstances.
