Weight Management

Help your pet maintain a healthy weight with our weight management program.

We all know how easy it is to spoil your pet with food. However, that is also the easiest way to make them overweight. Obesity can lead to many health risks and problems that can shorten their lifespan. It is important to give a healthy balanced diet with a good amount of exercise. Many pet owners struggle to maintain their pet at a healthy weight. Here at Gateway Pet Hospital, we are ready to help you out with that by providing you with a weight management program. To schedule an appointment, contact us at 519-653-1003.

How do I know if my pet is overweight?

The easiest way to tell if your pet is obese is by looking at their ribs. Relax your hand and run your fingers across the back of your hand around the knuckles. This is what your pet's ribs should feel like; individual bones covered with minimal fat. If you are still unsure, don't hesitate to contact our veterinary team!

How is obesity dangerous for my pet?

Overweight and obese pets are at risk of developing many diseases. Being just 5 pounds heavier than the ideal body weight can increase their chances. Some of the common disorders include:

  • Diabetes
  • Cancer

  • Heart disease
