At our hospital, we are proud to offer a wide variety of diagnostics performed in-house as we are well equipped with an ultrasound, as well as digital full-body and dental radiographs. Although physical examinations may give us a good indication of how your pet is doing from the outside, the ultrasound and X-rays will allow us to get a proper diagnosis of your pet by observing their internal organs and bone structures. Both an ultrasound and X-ray are great diagnostics to obtain specific inside views of your pet's body. Whereas an ultrasound provides a 3D view of your pet's internal chest and abdominal organs, radiographs examine the harder structures such as the bones and ligaments. In many cases, both imaging may be recommended to obtain the most diagnostic information possible as the two procedures can complement and enhance one another.
If your pet has anxiety or we know there will be pain associated with the area we have to manipulate, sedation may be recommended. Our team will discuss with you if sedation will be required.
In most cases, your pet's fur does not have to be shaved to perform either an ultrasound or radiograph. However, the ultrasound images may be of better quality if the area is shaved due to ultrasound waves not being transmitted through the air. As such, the hand-held probe has to make complete contact with the skin.
