When is euthanasia recommended?

Deciding whether euthanasia is the best option for your pet is a heart-wrenching decision to make. There are many factors to consider, such as their current diagnosis and quality of life.

  • Can your pet eat, drink, sleep, and/or move around comfortably?
  • Do they respond to your presence and greet you?
  • Are they visibly in discomfort or in pain?

As it is a difficult decision to make, we will give you as much time as you need. We can also provide palliative care in the meantime to make sure their last couple days are relaxing and comfortable.

Is it wrong to euthanize my pet?

Although you are making the decision to euthanize your well-loved pet, it does not negate a life well-lived. You provided your pet with lots of love and care for their entire life. This decision is an extension of that love if they are in pain or have a poor quality of life. Euthanasia is as humane as any medical procedure available to pets today.

Is euthanasia painful?

No, we do everything possible to ensure your pet doesn't feel any pain or discomfort. The veterinarian will begin by giving your pet an IV and administer a sedative to help them relax and enter a dream-like state. Once the sedative has taken effect, they will administer the medication that will let your pet drift off peacefully to sleep.
