Bloodwork Services for Pets

A simple method used to diagnose and treat ailments in pets.

Bloodwork is an essential service we recommend to all pets as it gives us vital information regarding their organ function and overall body health. Although your furry companion may not be displaying any clinical signs, bloodwork can pick up on any internal issues that cannot be seen or detected during a physical exam. To schedule your pet for a bloodwork appointment, call us at 519-653-1003.

What does bloodwork detect?

Depending on the type of bloodwork being performed, blood tests can give us an indication of the earliest signs of illnesses. Bloodwork can identify:

  • Whether there is anemia, inflammation, or an infection present
  • Immune system response and blood clotting ability
  • Identify internal organ functions

How often do pets need bloodwork?

There are several occasions when the vet may recommend bloodwork:

  • Pre-anesthetic testing before any surgical procedures requiring anesthesia
  • Annual routine exams as preventive care
  • Senior exams
  • Before starting a new medication and/or following medications
  • If your pet is displaying abnormal symptoms and behaviours
  • To help assess your pet's condition during emergency visits

Does my pet need to be sedated for bloodwork?

Nope! It is very quick and painless, so the vast majority of patients do not require any type of sedation. If, however, your pet is very anxious and/or fear aggressive, then we may recommend sedation to minimize unnecessary stress.
